The ketogenic diet has been around for decades, but it has recently gained popularity with the public in the United States. The keto diet, which is a high-fat, medium-protein, and very low-carbohydrate diet, is a very healthy and effective way to lose weight. It is a very strict diet that is very much different from the typical low-fat diet.

I set out on a keto diet in November of 2017. This is my second attempt at losing weight after my first attempt fell apart. I am now 5 months into keto, and I have no interest in going back. I have successfully lost 25lbs and my energy has never been higher. I feel great! Keto is a high fat, low carb diet that has had a lot of press lately. The term “keto” is short for “ketogenic diet.” It means that the body is using fat for energy instead of glucose. This is a much healthier and more sustainable way to get energy. It is the same principle as fasting, as a body is using fat for energy instead of glucose.

Are you aware that I’ve just begun a ketogenic diet? Aha! Colleen, my sister-in-law, and the rest of the team persuaded me to join the 30-day keto challenge, and it’s been working well so far (except for a little glitch over the weekend)! I was in the mood for a change at the start of the new year, so I decided to give the ketogenic diet a try.

I was a bit concerned about giving up all of my favorite meals since I’m usually constantly on the move as someone who enjoys eating every day. But I was interested in participating in this 30-day challenge since I’d heard nothing but good things about it. The claims that keto may help you lose weight, improve your mental clarity, and improve your health by 1000 times are also extremely appealing.

I picked up a few keto diet must-haves on a recent shopping trip to Sam’s Club and wanted to share my five favorites with you.

1. Chicken, roasted

I have no idea how they do it. It astounds me that I can purchase a full chicken, already seasoned and cooked, for less than $5! I typically eat half of it for supper and save the other half for the following day’s lunch. I chop the chicken into tiny pieces before putting it in the fridge so that you can quickly mix it with avocado or mayonnaise and celery for a fast chicken salad. That’s correct, I follow the recipes to a tee.

2. 3 pound wrapped bacon

You won’t receive the full advantages of keto until you attempt to include bacon into every meal. I like to purchase bacon in bulk since I consume a lot of it. In the worst-case scenario, I freeze half of it for later use…. but let’s face it, you know it won’t last long with me.

3. Eggland’s Best comes in a pack of 18 eggs.

Is there anything else I eat a lot of? Eggs. You may have them for breakfast, lunch, supper, as a late snack, or boil them with scrambled eggs for a quick meal….. Baby, eggs can do anything! You may think that 18 packs is a lot for a single guy, but believe me when I say that a pack and a half is plenty for a week’s supply.

4. Panino bread rolls with salami and mozzarella

These meat and cheese sandwiches are the ideal keto snack for a fast lunch since I’m nearly constantly on the move. They’re even pre-separated and portable since they’re packed in several rolls per box. The soft mozzarella and firm salami combo is wonderful, and the 9 grams of protein help me get through a long day of shopping!

5. Parmesan Chips for Members

Do you like a delectable snack? Because I, like the rest of the crew, can’t get enough parmesan crunch, the package barely makes it from the vehicle to my kitchen. When I’m in the need for something salty, I grab a handful of these candies. I know others use them in salads or use them as various garnishes, but I don’t have the patience for that. I suppose I should purchase a couple bags at a time now that I think about it.
