When it comes to tacos, I love to experiment and try new things, so I was really excited when I got the opportunity to create receta baja! I’ve been wanting to create a recipe that is a hybrid between a Baja-style fish taco and shrimp taco with a Mexican twist.
The other day Sarah and I were discussing the fact that tacos and burritos are two of the most popular Mexican foods in the United States. And, of course, the first thing that came up was the new taco shells that are made by Hormel®. We were wondering why they decided to make their shells out of corn tortillas. Is the corn tortilla a better shell for a taco than the flour tortilla, which is traditionally used for a taco? Since tortillas can be made from either corn or flour, should the Baja tacos, which are made of both corn and flour tortillas, be referred to as Baja tacos, or should they be called Baja burritos?

Ingredients for Baja Shrimp Tacos
Tacos de Baja Fried Shrimp
- a quarter cup of mayonnaise
- 1 adobo-stemmed Chipotle
- a quarter-cup of buttermilk
- 1 tablespoon of butter
- 1.5 CUP GREEN CABBAGE, SHREDDED
- 1 shredded carrot
- frying oil (vegetable)
- 12 pcs. shelled and deveined shrimp
- 1 cup Panko breadcrumbs
- 6 Tortillas de Corn
- 2 thinly sliced pickled jalapeos
- 12 finely sliced red onion
- 14 cup Cilantro, chopped
- Feta cheese, crumbled
- Lime (to serve)
- In a food processor, combine the mayonnaise, chipotle, and 1 tablespoon buttermilk. Salt & pepper to taste.
- In a skillet, saute the cabbage and carrots in butter. Salt & pepper to taste.
- After dipping the shrimp in buttermilk, coat them with panko.
- 2 minutes in a deep fryer with the shrimp Using paper towels, absorb any excess liquid.
- Toss the tortillas together. Fill the middle of each tortilla with part of the cabbage and carrot mixture, then top with two pieces of fried shrimp.
- Chipotle mayo, jalapeos, red onions, cilantro, and feta cheese go on top.
Preparation of Baja Fried Shrimp Tacos
This time, I’d want to do something fast and simple. Quesadillas, burritos, tacos, and tostadas are hard to resist. Or how about the comfort of knowing that a healthy dinner is just 30 minutes away when you get home after a long day?
Shrimp is one of my favorite foods. I’m also considering putting it inside tortillas. Tacos will be used in this meal. Tacos come in a variety of classic flavors. Hard-shell tacos or soft-shell tacos are both acceptable options. Tacos with a firm shell are the most popular kind. It’s easy to find in the grocery. Soft-shell tacos, on the other hand, were maize tortillas that had been prepared to a softer consistency than hard tacos, typically by grilling or steaming. Tacos prepared using wheat flour tortillas are known as soft tacos. Baja Fried Shrimp Tacos are an intriguing shrimp meal that I’d want to try. The recipe comes from the Mexican state of Baja California. You may grill or fry the shrimp, which are wrapped in tacos with crispy, sweet shrimp, buttery cabbage, sliced carrots, and sweet pickled red onions. Garnish with jalapenos, cilantro, and cheese and drizzle with zingy, spicy chipotle mayo. Serve with lime wedges right away.
