Jamaican Stew peas without meat- Vegan recipe – Vegan Recipes is a vegan recipe that uses ingredients like, vegetables, spices, and herbs to create a stew.

Red kidney beans are used to create Jamaican stew peas, which may be served with or without meat.

This vegan version, which you’ll learn how to prepare, is easy to make and tastes exactly like regular stew peas.

We ate this meal on a daily basis since I grew up in a home where meat was not a major part of our diet.

Recipes that go well together:

Soup with Red Peas (Vegan)

Chickpeas in a Jamaican Curry

My grandma used to prepare the most delicious stew peas without meat that were bursting with flavor thanks to the use of fresh coconut milk.

And now I’m going to share her recipe with you.

What exactly am I, Red Peas?

Crimson kidney beans are red peas.

I’m not sure why, but Jamaicans refer to red kidney beans as peas.

I’ll use the term peas from now on, and you’ll know I’m talking about red kidney beans.

This meal was made using uncooked red peas. This indicates that the peas will take some time.

To soften the peas, Jamaicans have traditionally used the technique of soaking them overnight.

To soften the peas and shorten the cooking time, I pressure cooked them for fifteen minutes.

Milk made from coconut

I only ever use fresh coconut milk while cooking stew peas.

Fresh coconut milk imparts a somewhat sweet flavor to the meal that is absent from store-bought coconut milk.

Making fresh handmade coconut will take longer to prepare, but it will be well worth it.

I’ll keep my word!

Even if vegan stew is made using canned coconut milk, it may still taste delicious.

It’s possible to eat the meal without the coconut milk and still enjoy it.

Fresh coconut milk, on the other hand, elevates the meal to new heights.

Spinners

What exactly are snippers?

This is one of the little oval-shaped dumplings in the meal.

These are simple to prepare, using just plan flour, water, and a little of salt if desired.

I don’t season my dumpling dough with salt, but if you think it’ll be bland, go ahead and season it.

To create the spinners, just take tiny pieces of dumpling dough and roll them in the palms of your hands.

How to Make Pea Stew Without Milk

Step 1: Make the coconut milk and let it to cool.

Step 2: Construct the spinners and put them aside.

Step 3: Combine the peas, pimento berries, and salt in a pressure cooker and pressure cook for 15 minutes.

Step 4: Combine the coconut milk, garlic, onion, thyme, scallion, carrot, and scotch bonnet pepper in a large mixing bowl.

Step 5: Bring the water to a boil before adding the spinners. As required, season with additional salt.

Step 6: Cook until the liquid has thickened and reduced.

With What To Serve It

The finest way to serve stewed peas is with cooked white rice.

Because there is so much going on in the stew peas, a simple side dish complements it nicely.

  • 2 scallion stalks, chopped

  • 3 smashed garlic cloves
  • 5 berries of pimento

  • a third of a cup of plain flour
  • Water
  • 1/8 teaspoon of salt (Optional)

Spinners

  • Combine the flour and salt in a small mixing dish.

  • Knead in a little amount of water at a time until a solid dough forms.

  • Separate into very tiny pieces and roll in the palm of your hand to form a ball.

How to cook peas in a stew

  • Wash the peas and soak them in cold water overnight.

  • When you’re ready to boil the peas, drain the water.

  • In a pressure cooker, combine the peas with 3 cups of water, 5 pimento berries, and 1 teaspoon of salt. Close the pressure cooker and cook the peas for approximately 15 minutes at high pressure.

  • Before removing the lib, turn off the heat and let the pressure cooker to cool.

  • Return the beans to a medium heat setting on the stove. Combine the coconut milk, garlic, onion, thyme, scallion, carrot, and scotch bonnet pepper in a large mixing bowl.

  • Bring the water to a boil. Toss in the spinners.

  • Taste to see if additional salt is needed, then season to taste.

  • Cover the saucepan (not the pressure cooker) and simmer until the sauce has thickened and reduced. To keep the pot from burning, stir it periodically. While stirring, be careful not to rupture the scotch bonnet pepper.

Although I do not use salt in my spinners, I have discovered that many people like it with salt, so I include it in the ingredients.
