While tomatoes and cucumbers are technically fruits, they are lumped in with vegetables from the vegetable family. And while they might taste similar, they are not the same. When pickled, cucumbers taste more like a cross between a tomato and a pickle. On the other hand, tomatoes have a more earthy flavor when pickled and are also closer to a vegetable.
This is a recipe for Tomato and Cucumber Relish (Tomato and Cucumber Relish) It is a delicious and healthy relish that goes great with meat, seafood, vegetables and poultry.
We use relish in almost every meal. It’s used to top sandwiches, burgers and quesadillas and it can also be used as an ingredient in side dishes, such as potato salad and coleslaw. Relish is an easy-to-find ingredient that adds a unique flavor to several dishes.
A wonderful Khmer dish with crisp cucumber, tomato, and sweet onion in a light vinaigrette dressing. It’s a delicious side dish to offer with grilled meats. Let’s get started with the Tomato and Cucumber Relish.
Ingredients
| white vinegar, 2 tblsp | ||
| sugar (one spoonful) | ||
| a quarter teaspoon of salt | ||
| 1/4 cup sweet yellow onion, chopped (option) | ||
| 1 peeled, quartered, seeded, and cut into small pieces big cucumber | ||
| 1 medium tomato, peeled and chopped into bite-size pieces |
Tomato and Cucumber Relish Instructions
- Mix vinegar, sugar, and salt in a small bowl until sugar is dissolved, then add onion, stir well, and leave aside.
- Place cucumber and tomato in a large mixing bowl, pour vinaigrette sauce over top, and toss thoroughly before serving.
- Serve with grilled meats or seafood.
