This blog post is inspired by a friend who loves to cook, but who now finds herself too busy to experiment with new and interesting recipes. To feed her family of six, she has to keep the same roast chicken or pork chops on rotation and top them with a basic salad or some boiled potatoes. And she can’t help but feel a little bit guilty about it.
The one thing I want to share with you today is my family’s Sunday routine. Sunday is a family day for us, so on Sundays we all get together to enjoy a simple dinner. We start by making the main course of the day. This can vary, but we usually serve dinner around 6pm. For the main course we usually have a salad, the kind of salad you would finish a meal with and not eat for lunch the next day, but if you’re someone that likes to finish your meal with a couple of slices of pizza or fries, then this isn’t the kind of dinner for you.
I remember when I was a kid, my parents would cook us dinner every night. They would make fried rice, or chicken, or noodles, vegetables and maybe something random like a pizza. I loved those dinners. I fell in love with the smell of their cooking, and the sound of the oven as it heated. I loved the way my family talked to each other, and how they ate together at the table. It was a special time for me.
