It’s hard to pass up a yummy sweet potato dish when the holiday rolls around. But sometimes I get tired of the same old stuff. This recipe offers a spin on a holiday-table staple. What is the best method for preparing a potato?
I’ve discovered that the best methods to cook a potato are in the oven, which is the conventional method, or in an instant pot, which is the fast method! To bake in the oven, wash the potato and pierce it with a fork before placing it on a baking pan. Bake for 50-60 minutes at 400 degrees Fahrenheit in a preheated oven. Remove from the oven and set aside to cool. Place 1 cup of water in the Instant Pot’s base and the trivet on top. Place all of the sweet potatoes in the container and close the lid, pressing the vent to the ‘Seal’ position. Select ‘Manual’ and set the timer for 13 minutes (small/medium potatoes). Set the timer for 19 minutes for big potatoes. Allow a 10-minute natural pressure release once the cook time has passed. Release the residual pressure using a long utensil and gently remove. Allow them to cool completely before continuing with the process.
What makes a sweet potato different from a normal potato?
A sweet potato and a white potato have a lot of characteristics. They are similar in terms of starch, protein, and calories. The traits that distinguish them, however, are the most notable. Sweet potatoes contain a lot more sugar and Vitamin A than white potatoes, and baked sweet potatoes have a lot more carbs and fat than white potatoes. Sweet potatoes outperformed white potatoes in terms of vitamin C and A, while white potatoes outperformed sweet potatoes in terms of vitamins B1, B3, and folic acid. As you can see, they both have advantages, and it all depends on how the root vegetable is prepared and cooked. They both offer a plethora of health advantages, which motivates me to keep them on the menu on a regular basis!

The first step is to prepare the sweet potatoes according to your preferences. Methods of preparation suggested:
Oven:
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Wash the sweet potato and prick it all over with a fork. Cook for 50 to 60 minutes on a baking pan. Remove from the oven after approximately an hour and set aside to cool.
Using an Instant Pot:
- In the bottom of the Instant Pot, pour 1 cup of water. After that, set the tiny trivet on top of the sweet potatoes. Place the lid on top and turn the valve to the ‘seal’ position. Set the timer to ‘manual,’ and the duration to 13 minutes. Allow 10 minutes for the pressure to naturally relax once the time has passed. After 10 minutes, gently remove the remaining pressure and open the lid. Remove the potatoes and set them aside to cool before continuing.
Cut the sweet potatoes in half lengthwise and gently scoop out the insides with a spoon after they’ve been cooked. Leave a very thin layer to allow the skin to retain its form. In a large mixing bowl, combine all of the inside ingredients.
Toss together the sweet potato, butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a mixing bowl. Mix until everything is well combined.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Return the mixture to the boat with care. You should be able to neatly fill all of the skins!
In a skillet, combine the topping ingredients: cinnamon, water, and brown sugar while the oven is preheating. Combine all ingredients in a mixing bowl. Preheat the oven to medium-high.
