Homemade Oxtail Cabbage Soup is simple and quick to prepare. This soup is composed mostly of oxtail and cabbage and is extremely popular in Cambodia; it resembles a Vietnamese beef soup.


Oxtail, 1/2 pound (225 gram)    
1 chopped yellow onion    
8 quarts water    
1/2 cabbage head, sliced into bite-size pieces    
2 tblsp. fish sauce    
a quarter teaspoon of salt    
sugar (half a spoonful)    
black pepper, 1/4 teaspoon    
1/2 cup green onion and cilantro, chopped    

Soup recipe with oxtails and cabbage

  1. In a large soup pot, combine the oxtail, onion, and water; simmer over high heat until the water boils.
  2. Simmer until oxtail is cooked in a covered soup pot with a lid (approx 2 hours).
  3. Removed the cover, stirred in the cabbage, raised the heating temperature to high, and cooked until the soup was boiling.
  4. Fish sauce, salt, sugar, and black pepper are used to season the dish.
  5. Green onion and cilantro go on top.

Serve immediately with rice.
