To make the finest chocolate cookies, follow these guidelines:

  • Make sure the dough is well floured. You may need to add a little flour if the dough is too sticky.
  • Do not let the butter to melt! The butter must be softened (at room temperature), but not melted, otherwise the cookies will be ruined.
  • When combining the butter and sugars, take your time. The consistency of your cookies will be improved by creaming them together for 2-3 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F. This will ensure that your cookies are perfect every time!
  • Make use of a cookie scoop! A cookie scoop is the way to go if you want all of your cookies to be precisely formed and the same size.
  • Use parchment paper or a silicone baking surface to prevent sticking. This will make removing the cookies from the cookie sheet a breeze, as you won’t have to scrape them off the pan – they’ll simply glide right off in great form!
  • Don’t overbake the cookies – mine appear slightly underbaked when I take them out of the oven, but that’s OK since they’ll continue to bake on the cookie sheet for a few more minutes.

What is the best way to get butter to room temperature?

Setting butter out for a few hours before making cookies is the best method to soften it. Because most of us (or maybe just me!) aren’t as prepared as we should be or don’t plan ahead of time, there are a few methods to softening butter properly in minutes. Microwaving butter is my preferred method of softening it. It is indeed quick, but you must be cautious not to melt it. Simply put the whole stick of butter in the microwave (as long as it isn’t covered in foil!) and heat for 6-7 seconds. If the butter is still very cold, wait another 5-7 seconds before checking it. You may require many intervals, and if the butter begins to feel soft, you may reduce the last period to just a few seconds to avoid melting.

Actually, I like to use my microwave’s defrost option – I’m not sure what that mode does differently, and it takes a little longer (near to 30 seconds), but it appears to be simpler to soften the butter without melting.

I only have one child. Only one male among four girls. He was disappointed when he learned that our final child was a girl since he had hoped for a brother. We had a difficult couple of months, but she gradually gained his trust. B is now 10 months old, and C is a fantastic big brother. He is very kind with her and is the greatest at making her giggle in our family. She adores him, and despite the fact that she is completely active and does not like to stay still for extended periods of time, she sometimes offers short tiny hugs to people she cares about. I hope these two remain close for the rest of their lives, and I hope she understands how fortunate she is to have such a wonderful older brother!
