In only 25 minutes, you can make this simple Chicken Lo Mein with Egg Noodles, Carrots, Bell Peppers, Broccoli, Peas, Chicken, and a wonderful soy sauce taste. This Lo Mein Chicken is much superior than the Chinese takeout you’re used to.
Many of the dishes I’ve prepared previously may be substituted for a healthier domestic takeaway, such as Sweet and Sour Chicken and others. But the Chicken Lo Mein we’re cooking today is a little different, and I’m certain you’ll like it.
What is Chicken Lo Mein, and what does it entail?
That is, after all, a crucial question! Lo mein is a simplified version of a classic Chinese egg noodle meal. It typically includes a variety of vegetables as well as some kind of seafood or meat, such as chicken, beef, pig, shrimp, or wontons (Chinese dumpling). It’s also delicious served with just veggies.
Used in Lo Mein Sauce
To achieve that somewhat sweet and wonderful taste, we’ll mix the chicken and veggies with soy sauce last. Cook the egg noddles in sesame oil to prevent the noodles from sticking together while tossing the ingredients. Finally, hoisin sauce is a rich, aromatic sauce often used as a glaze on meat, an addition to stir-fries, or as a dipping sauce in Chinese cuisine.
This Chicken Lo Mein dish may be used in a variety of ways. Any veggies you have on hand, such as mushrooms, peppers, broccoli, or whatever is in your refrigerator, may be used. Simply toss everything together, and each time you change the veggies, you’ll get a new taste. This is beneficial because you will not get bored, and the variety of veggies will keep your tongue tasting fresh.
You may use grilled chicken or any leftover chicken for the chicken portion. Replace the chicken with beef, pork, or seafood like shrimp for a delicious beef lo mein.
What makes a Lo Mein different from a Chow Mein?
The major distinction between chow mein and lo mein is the technique of preparation for these stir-fry noodles. Wheat-flour egg noodles are used in both lo mein and chow mein. Lo mein noodles are softened by boiling, whereas genuine chow mein noodles are crisped by frying. Both have about the same nutritional content, however the ingredients used while stir-frying determine the healthiness of both chow mein and lo mein dishes.

The chicken is very soft, the vegetables are tender, and the sauce is thick, but still delicious. However, this dish is not very healthy and can add a lot of calories to your diet.
