Pear and balsamic vinegar can work together to make a delicious balsamic glaze. Cook apples in the oven and then chop them into bite-size pieces. Bring the mixture to a boil in a small saucepan, and then let it simmer until the liquid has reduced by half. Add the vinegar and honey, and stir to combine. Transfer pear to a bowl and drizzle with the glaze.
I used to be a huge fan of Balsamic Glazed Onions. I loved to dip them in my pizzas, or eat them plain with bread. What I didn’t like were the jars of Balsamic that my local supermarket sold. They were so expensive and so much of a rip off, because most of them were only a few months old. This was something I was really annoyed about. One day, I decided to see if I could make Balsamic vinegar myself. And guess what? I did. Today I’m going to show you how I can make Balsamic vinegar for a fraction of the price of most stores.
The video above shows some of the steps I take in making my pear onions (basically pearl onions). First, I clean and cut the onions into rounds. Next, I cook the onion rounds in a pan with a little oil, salt, and pepper. Once the onions are done, I add balsamic vinegar and let the liquid cook down into a glaze; I then let it cool before adding the onions to a dish. This process can take a long time, but with a little patience, it pays off big in the end!

What are pearl onions, and what do they do?
Small white onions are known as pearl onions. They’re typically found packed in mesh bags in the fresh vegetable department of supermarkets. They’re also often seen in the frozen foods area. The advantage of purchasing them frozen is that you don’t have to perform any prep work, which may be tedious.
How do you cook pearl onions?
If using fresh pearl onions, remove the dried outer layers as you would any other onion. It’s a little more difficult and time-consuming to extract these onions since they’re tiny. The simplest way I’ve found is to blanch the onions in boiling water for 2-4 minutes before draining them. Slice the onion tip off and squeeze the onion to take it out of the skin after it has cooled.
What is balsamic vinegar and how does it work?
Balsamic Vinegar is an Italian vinegar produced from red grapes. To make the black delicious vinegar, the grape must is fermented for many years. Some types, typically Modena variants, are combined with wine vinegar and are less expensive than the older varieties.

Balsamic Glazed Pearl Onions are a kind of onion that has been glazed with balsamic vinegar.
The very first time I had a “Balsamic Glazed” dish was in a restaurant. It was one of those little dishes that they put on the table when you order your meal, and it was the best dish of my whole life. I was not aware of how to make it, but I just kept trying it over and over every time I went to that restaurant. I knew that I had to have it, I love foods that are unique, or that are a little bit different, and this was just that. From that day on, I have started to make my own balsamic glazed dishes, and I love it. It is a very simple dish, but the flavor is just out of this world. I hope.
