Bread is probably the most popular food eaten the world over. There is hardly a person who doesn’t like bread. Bread is a staple food for most households and is often baked at home. There are many people in the world who are trying to cut down on carbs, especially when it comes to bread.
There is a nagging problem with low-carb bread, and you should know about it. You see, there are plenty of people who are on a low-carb diet, and most of them eat bread. They might only eat bread—as opposed to pasta, rice and potatoes—but bread is the staple of the diet. So, what happens when their friends visit on a weekend, or they go to a family barbecue? They have to eat something, and bread is the easiest thing on the planet to eat.
Bread is usually the first thing a low-carb dieter gives up, therefore forming the basis for an unhappy thread on the AskReddit net forum last week. It is a popularly-cited reason to leave low-carb, but is it really a serious problem? I thought that the only way to find out was to find out for myself.
Many individuals give up bread as part of a low-carb diet. Many low-carb breads are available in stores, but be cautious! They are typically plagued by one of two issues:
- Bread has a lot of carbs, and the nutritional information on the package is misleading.
- Bread is unfit to eat.
The first issue is shown by Julian Bakery’s low-carb bread. People’s blood sugar levels increased exactly as much as if they ate actual bread, as I previously said. When the low-carb bread was analyzed, it turned out to have 17 times the amount of carbs (!) anticipated.
Julian’s bakery bread used to be an example of the first problem: a high-carb loaf masquerading as low-carb.
Following the discovery, they reportedly changed the recipe to make it genuinely low-carb. Instead of utilizing sprouted whole wheat flour, or wheat flour, as the primary component, they now utilize non-GMO wheat protein isolate, or gluten (!). This isn’t quite paleo. The end product may be seen in the video above.
