Thai Sweet Sticky Rice with Mango |

Sweet sticky rice is a Thai delicacy, and it’s usually served with mango. However, it’s also perfect for the summer when mangoes are in season. I first tried this dish at a children’s school party and it was so sweet and yummy that I had to try to make it at home. I love Thai food and I thought it would be great to make a recipe with mango. If you like sweet food, this is the best one from the list of Thai recipes that I have.

It is a way of cooking sticky rice that is very popular among Thai people. The rice stick to each others and cannot be separated from the bamboo stick.

“Thai sweet sticky rice with mango” is a popular dish in Thailand, which consists of cooked sticky rice wrapped in banana leaves and steamed in banana leaf baskets. It is this format of cooking that influenced the term “banana leaf” to describe banana leaves in general, which is why banana leaf is used to wrap up different foods such as rice.

Sticky Rice with Mango is a classic Thai delicacy made with sweet coconut milk, sticky rice, and fresh mango.

This traditional Thai dessert is simple to prepare and popular both in Thailand and the United States.

The sticky rice is combined with a sweet and somewhat salty coconut milk before being topped with sweet mango and a drizzle of coconut milk. Warm sticky rice with cold mango is my favorite way to eat it; it’s delicious!

The dish requires the preparation of traditional Thai Sticky Rice first, after which the dessert comes together fast.

Thai Sticky Rice: A Step-by-Step Guide

I have a whole article and video dedicated to teaching you how to steam glutinous rice, commonly known as sweet rice.

It is critical to use the right rice; do not use jasmine or long grain rice. It should also be steamed rather than boiled.

The sweet rice must also be steeped for at least 4 hours or overnight. As a result, if you want to make sticky rice with mango, you’ll need to prepare ahead.

Sauce made with coconut

The coconut sauce is what gives the rice its sweetness and creaminess. Coconut cream is what I’m using. Full fat coconut milk may also be used, although it will not be as creamy.

Spoon with coconut milk pouring over mango pieces.

To create the sauce, you’ll need the following ingredients:

This is a quick and easy coconut sauce recipe. Some versions call for a thicker, saltier sauce to pour over top, but I simply set aside a quarter of the coconut sauce.

Mangoes of several varieties

This meal is traditionally made using Yellow or Champagne Mangos. They’re tiny and adorable. This mango type may be found at most ethnic and Asian grocery shops.

Red mangos may be found at most local grocery shops in the United States. If you’re using red mango, it should be somewhat squishy but not too so. The sweeter a red mango is, the more ripe it is.

To prepare the mango, gently peel the skin away from the fruit, then slice along the pit. You may cut it into pieces or slices to make it simpler to consume.

I also freeze my mango chunks before serving so that they are cool.

Putting Together the Dessert

Cooking the sticky rice and preparing the coconut sauce at the same time is a good idea.

This manner, when the rice is done, it may be mixed into the warm coconut sauce. This will aid in the rice’s absorption of the sauce, resulting in a creamy texture.

Serve the dessert with rice on a dish or bowl, chilled mango slices or cubes, and a drizzle of the leftover coconut sauce.

Roasted sesame seeds or toasted mung beans may be added to the top, but I didn’t have any on hand.

This dish is best served immediately, but the rice may be kept warm in a sauce pan on the lowest setting and stirred regularly.

Store leftovers in the refrigerator and reheat in the microwave with a wet paper towel on top if serving the following day.

Instructions

  • Rinse rice well until water runs clear, then soak overnight or for at least 4 hours in a basin of water.

  • See this article for instructions on how to create sticky rice. https://thaicaliente.com/easy-thai-sticky-rice/

  • Make the coconut sauce at the same time as the rice is cooking. Place the whole can of coconut cream in a small saucepan over medium low heat. Stir gently and bring to a low simmer.

  • Add the sugar and salt after the coconut milk has reached a moderate boil. To dissolve, stir well, then reduce heat to the lowest setting. You’re ready to try the sauce at this stage. You may increase the sugar if you want a sweeter sauce. Now set aside 14 cup of coconut milk for pouring over top.

  • Add the rice to the heated coconut milk as soon as it’s done cooking. The rice will soak up the coconut milk if you do it while it’s still warm. It should be added in portions and stirred in between. Remove from the heat and set aside for 15 minutes if serving straight away. If you’re going to serve it in approximately an hour, leave it on the burner on the lowest heat setting and stir it occasionally.

  • To serve, place the rice on a dish or bowl, top with the chilled sliced or cubed mango, and sprinkle with the remaining coconut sauce. If desired, roasted mung bean sesame seeds may be used as a garnish.

Notes

Store sweet coconut rice in the refrigerator and reheat in the microwave with a wet paper towel on top if serving the following day. Coconut milk that has been saved must also be kept in the refrigerator.
