Summer is here, and with it comes the opportunity for backyard barbecues. However, if you want to make your summer meal a success, you need to be prepared. There are a lot of ways to game the barbecue, but we like to keep it simple. For our first barbecue recipe, we enlisted the help of our favorite summer companion: a homegrown vegetable. These simple chicken lettuce wraps will make your barbecue memorable.

Eating lettuce wraps was never a meal option I looked forward to, but something about the idea of eating some dry lettuce instead of a hardy meat or crunchy vegetable was intriguing. Inspiration: The popular salad bar concept is now available at your local grocery store. Basically, you pick your ingredients and wait at the counter while they’re mixed together and assembled into your choice of salads. There’s also the salad bar inside restaurants, where you pick what you want, and it’s made to order. Well, I can’t do the lettuce wrap thing at the grocery store, because I don’t have a car. I’ve been carrying my lunch around as a sub-par meal, but I’ve decided to take action to change my eating

These refreshing wraps are made with ground chicken that is mixed with cilantro, garlic, lime juice, and green onions and then shaped into a wrap. It is wrapped around salad greens and served with salsa.

One of our favorite restaurants has always been PF Changs. We haven’t lived near one in a long time, but my kids beg me to take them for lettuce wraps whenever we pass through Atlanta Airport! Who can resist the delectable wraps that, since they are covered in lettuce, are instantly guilt-free? To fulfill our desires, we began preparing these delicious wraps at home, and I love the taste and how simple it is to make this chicken and eat it all week!

What kind of lettuce is best for wraps?

There is no “correct” response to this; it is entirely a matter of personal taste! Many individuals utilize Romaine or Iceberg lettuce. Butter Bibb lettuce is one of my favorites since the soft leaves are simple to bend and wrap, and the size is ideal for 2 or 3 mouthful wraps!

With the Simple Chicken Lettuce Wraps, what should I serve?

These wraps are delicious with fried rice, lo mein noodles, or even fish! They’re delicious on their own, as a side dish, or as an appetizer.

Simple Chicken Lettuce Wraps Ingredients

  • 1 pound of ground chicken
  • 1 medium diced onion
  • 8 oz. chopped water chestnuts from a can
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • fresh ginger, 1 inch nob, minced
  • Butter Bib lettuce, 10-12 leaves

To make the sauce, combine the following ingredients.

  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons of soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup of water
  • 1 tablespoon of peanut butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon of rice vinegar
  • 2 tsp garlic-chili sauce

How to create our Chicken Lettuce Wraps with a Twist

Cook the chicken and onions in a big pan or wok over high heat.

Garlic and ginger should be added before the chicken is completely cooked. Cook the chicken until it is no longer pink.

Combine sesame oil soy sauce, water, peanut butter, honey, rice vinegar, and chili garlic sauce in a separate small bowl.

Microwave the bowl for 30 seconds to melt the peanut butter. To mix the components, stir them together.

Pour the sauce mixture over the chicken and add the water chestnuts. Cook for another 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Remove from heat and wrap a big scoop of the mixture in your favorite lettuce. As a salad, it may also be served over a bed of lettuce. Refrigerate any leftover chicken in an airtight container for up to 1 week.

  • 1 pound of ground chicken

  • 2 1/2 tablespoons of soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup of water
  • 1 tablespoon of peanut butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon of rice vinegar
  • 2 tsp garlic-chili sauce
  • Butter Bib lettuce, 10-12 leaves

Instructions

    1. Cook the chicken and onion in a big pan or wok over high heat.
    2. Add the garlic and ginger just before the chicken is done cooking and continue to simmer until the chicken is no longer pink.
    3. Combine sesame oil, soy sauce, water, peanut butter, honey, rice vinegar, and chili garlic sauce in a separate small bowl and microwave for 30 seconds to melt the peanut butter. To mix the components, stir them together.
    4. Add the water chestnuts to the chicken, then pour in the sauce mixture and simmer for another 2-3 minutes.
    5. Remove a big spoonful of the mixture from the stove and wrap it in lettuce of your choosing. As a salad, it may also be served over a bed of lettuce.
    6. Refrigerate any leftover chicken in an airtight container for up to 1 week.
