Roasted Brussel Sprouts with Bacon |

This isn’t your average brussel sprout recipe. This is the only brussel sprout recipe you’ll ever need. Because you need roasted brussel sprouts for your life. Seriously.

Brussel sprouts are a very popular vegetable here in New York City. They are hearty enough to survive on their own, but they are also great in salads, sandwiches, and as an added touch in the kitchen. This dish is a tasty way to enjoy the sprouts with a crunchy bacon-and-onion topping.

I’ve been craving brussel sprouts lately, and as I was brainstorming ways to cook them, I thought back to the salad I ate at a famous midwest chain. It had good brussel sprouts, but they were topped with bacon. When I asked the waiter what kind of bacon they used, he said it was local, organic and raised on a farm in the Pacific Northwest. I decided to try making my own, and my new favorite dish is now brussels with a crispy bacon kick.

I would have laughed at you if you had told me as a kid that I would grow to enjoy brussel sprouts. They had never been permitted in my home since my father despised them as a child. My grandmother had a penchant for cooking brussel sprouts to death, which I believe stems from her Polish ancestry. I’ve become a lover of brussel sprouts thanks to a technique adjustment, particularly this dish for Roasted Brussel Sprouts with Bacon.

Roasting brussel sprouts is by far my favorite way of preparation. They become crispy on the exterior and soft in the center as they cook. I poured maple syrup on top for this dish, which the brussel sprouts soaked up like a sponge, creating a delicious combination of sweet, soft, and salty crisp. Brussel sprouts may be seasoned in a variety of ways, including savory and sweet spices.

How to make bacon-wrapped brussel sprouts

This one is simple. My oven is set to a high temperature, typically between 400 and 425 degrees. I’ll cut and split the brussel sprouts, mix with a little vegetable oil, then season liberally with salt and pepper while the oven heats up. I’ll then lay them out on a nonstick pan, roast them for about 20 minutes, and season them with whatever else I have on hand, like bacon and maple syrup in this recipe. Done in a flash and with ease!

Brussel sprouts are usually harvested in the autumn, although they may be found all year. In the autumn, some grocery shops may offer them on the stalk, allowing you to pick them yourself. I’ve yet to discover a decent recipe that uses frozen brussel sprouts, so whenever I see them at the store, I purchase a couple pounds. If the little version of myself could read that final line, she would not believe it! What a long way I’ve come!
