Roasted Brussels Sprouts are an easy and flavorful side dish that pairs great with Thanksgiving, Christmas, and just about any meal of the year. If you can’t find fresh Brussels Sprouts, look for frozen Brussels Sprouts in your grocery store’s produce aisle. They come in plastic bags, and will have the same dark green color and slightly wilted appearance as fresh Brussels Sprouts.
When I was a kid, I loved brussel sprouts and loved them for good reason. They might sound like an oddly specific food for a child, but I was never a fan of any dish that didn’t taste great—and these little green green beauties were always a hit. If you don’t believe me, just check out any recipe book you have lying around, and you’ll find a version of ’em.
When it comes to healthy foods, Brussels sprouts are pretty well-known and we’ve been eating them for a long time. However, we’ve never seen anything quite like this. Roasting them with maple syrup and cranberries gives them the perfect sweet and savory flavor combo.
Crispy, sweet, and just 4 ingredients for a delicious meal, these Brussel Sprouts are a must-try!
If you’re not a lover of brussel sprouts, I strongly advise you to give this dish a try.
I’ve never been a fan, and I blame it on the fact that I’ve only ever eaten them boiled, which is disgusting! I was hooked after I began roasting vegetables instead of steaming or boiling them. Roasting veggies adds a lot of flavor and helps spices and seasonings stick better.
What You’ll Require
Brussel sprouts should be cleaned, trimmed, and sliced in half before serving.
I used orange-flavored dried cranberries, which added even more flavor.
The canned onions are fried onions. I bought mine at Trader Joe’s, but they should be available at any supermarket shop around the holidays.
The genuine deal in maple syrup.
Salt, pepper, and smoked paprika
Brussel Sprouts Roasting Instructions
Pre-heat your oven before roasting the Brussel Sprouts, or any other vegetable for that matter.
Ensure that the oil and spices are equally spread. Tossing things together with my hands is all I do.
Bake for about 20 minutes, or until golden and crispy.
Place the roasted brussel sprouts in an oven-safe dish and sprinkle with maple syrup, cranberries, and fried onions.
Return to the oven for another 10 minutes. The maple syrup caramelizes onto the brussel sprouts at this point, and magic occurs. This is not a step to be skipped!
Tips for Planning Ahead
Keep the brussel sprouts warm in the oven at 200 degrees Fahrenheit.
You may roast the brussel sprouts and combine them with the maple syrup and cranberries in a dish, then cover and chill. Place the fried onions on top when ready to serve and bake for approximately 15 minutes, or until warmed through.
