When Amy was 17, she began to research the ketogenic diet, which is an extreme form of low-carb eating. At first, Amy was excited about the weight loss benefits, but she soon found that without getting any exercise, the diet didn’t work for her. It was at this point that Amy decided she needed to overhaul her lifestyle. I was always curious about successful diets, especially when they worked out so well for some people. When I first started losing weight on the keto diet, I was really excited because I had heard of it but never thought of doing it myself. Then, I started reading a lot of keto blogs and realized that there was a lot of information about keto and how to do it properly. After a while on the keto diet, I found that it was working for me, and I was losing weight. What drew you to keto in the first place?

In 2017, I was introduced to keto by dietitian Leanne Vogel. She is the creator of Healthful Pursuit and the presenter of The Keto Diet podcast. She is also the bestselling author of over 11 health programs.

Do you keep track of your macros, calories, and other stats?

Counting macros and keeping track of what I eat has become an essential component of my self-improvement routine. Now that I’m within five pounds of my target, I can’t consume as much fat as I could when I first began the keto diet, so I’ve had to change my macros to stay on track.

I follow the ketogenic diet to a tee, which begins with two hard-boiled eggs and two slices of bacon for breakfast.

Lunch is typically a slow-cooker meal that I make five days in advance. Slow-cooker chicken, spaghetti squash with chicken meatballs, or taco casserole are a few examples…. These are all fantastic Keto recipes!

I also work out often, therefore I prefer to eat something before I exercise. A cooked egg, cheese, half an ounce of walnuts, and four strawberries are my go-to pre-workout snack.

Dinner is occasionally steak with asparagus, sharp cheddar, half an ounce of walnut, and half an avocado, which is also a potluck meal. I like to keep things simple.

Do you use intermittent fasting as part of your daily routine?

It’s something I desire! I typically fast from 6pm to 10pm and then have bacon and hard-boiled eggs for breakfast around 10am or 10:30am.

What motivates you to remain on track?

For me, staying on track entails making daily decisions that help me grow as a person. I made a total of 365 or more decisions! Keeping track of what I eat, calculating macros, and being continuously accountable have all been important to me.

What advise would you offer to someone who is just starting out on a keto diet or is having trouble sticking to it?

The trick is to schedule your meals ahead of time. My greatest advise is to plan your meals and know what you’re going to eat ahead of time. Many tasks are made simpler when you plan beforehand.
