-Vanilla and almond extract: I recommend using a high-quality vanilla extract or Vanilla Bean Paste for this recipe. You may omit the almond extract if you have allergies or dislike the flavor, but I believe it elevates the flavor of these cookies!
-Flour: I typically use all-purpose flour, but this recipe may also be made with bread flour or even pastry flour.
Baking powder is used as a leavening ingredient in cookies. To get the greatest results, make sure your baking powder isn’t outdated or expired.
Ingredients for the Frosting
-Powdered sugar: Provides a rich, sweet frosting texture with a smooth, creamy finish. Yum!
-Butter: I use salted butter, but unsalted butter is also an option. There will be no margarine!
-Almond extract: I like almond extract in these cookies, but you may substitute vanilla if you want. It’s wonderful either way.
-Milk: Almond milk, coconut milk, or cashew milk may be substituted for cow’s milk. Depending on how much milk you use, you may make the frosting thicker or thinner.
Cream Cheese Sugar Cookies: How to Make Them
-Combine the sugar, butter, and cream cheese for approximately 2-3 minutes.
-Mix in the egg, vanilla, and almond extract for a further 1-2 minutes. Mix in the flour and baking powder until smooth and well combined.
-Set aside for at least 2 hours to chill. Roll dough to approximately 1/4″ thick on a floured board and cut out using cookie cutters. (If you simply want to create circular cookies, take a spoonful of dough and shape it into a ball.) Place the ball on the baking sheet and flatten it with the bottom of a measuring cup or a glass to a 1/4-inch thickness.)
-Bake for 8-10 minutes at 375°F, or until the edges are slightly brown. Cool for approximately 5-10 minutes on cookie sheets before transferring to a wire rack to cool fully.
-To create the frosting, whisk together all of the ingredients in a mixer until smooth. Spread over cookies that have been allowed to cool fully.
