Carbs on Low Carb: How Low Carb Is Low Carb? —

Alma Bax 2 min read

I first heard about low-carb diets back in the ’80s when my wife and I were trying to lose weight. We were constantly tested for diseases, but low-carb diets were never mentioned and we both managed to stay slim despite our calorie-restricting efforts.

Low carb is low carb. That is an indisputable law in the low carb universe. But what is low carb? What is a low carb meal? Is there a point where you are full and satisfied? Low carb is a lifestyle, and it is not all about low calorie. Yes, you can eat very little and lose weight. But is that the best way to eat?

There are many different opinions floating around out there, but I’m going to try and lay out the case for the low-carb diet from as many angles as possible. First, I’ll start with the basics. You can read a lot about the pros and cons of low carb diets, but I think it’s important to understand the extremes. If you believe that carbs are the only thing you need to survive, you probably think that it’s not worth trying anything but a low carb diet. Conversely, if you believe that low carb can do everything and anything, you probably think that everything and anything can be done on a low carb diet, too.. Read more about how many carbs in a low-carb diet and let us know what you think.

Our understanding of the term

The various degrees of low-carb diets are defined as follows:

  • Low-carb ketogenic diet <20 grams of net carbs per day. This percentage of carbohydrate is defined as less than 4 energy percent (E%) carbohydrate in our recipes or, if it is a meal, 7 grams of carbohydrate or less. In our ketogenic recipes, the amount of carbohydrates per serving is indicated in the green balls.
  • Low-carb diet with 20-50 grams of net carbs per day. The quantity of carbohydrates per serving is shown in the yellow bullets, and this level is specified in our recipes as 4-10 E percent carbs.
  • A low-carbohydrate diet ranging from 50 to 100 grams net per day. In our recipes, this translates to 10-20% carbohydrates, with the quantity of carbs per serving shown in orange bullets.

A normal Western diet, on the other hand, may easily include 250 grams or more of carbs per day, the bulk of which are refined carbohydrates, such as sugar.

Nutritional ketosis is typically achieved by eating a low-carbohydrate diet of 20-50 grams per day. This figure is defined as less than 4% of the energy in our recipes coming from carbs. If you stick to our keto recipes, you won’t eat more than 20 grams of carbohydrates for a 2,000-calorie diet by restricting carbs to 4% of your total energy.

Because some of the keto meals you utilize will likely include much less than the maximum number of net carbohydrates, you’ll wind up consuming far less carbs in most instances.

Message: While our recipes provide percentages of calories from carbs, proteins, and fats, we don’t think it’s essential to calculate them. We provide them as a guide, but we suggest minimizing carbs, getting adequate protein, and modifying the fat content to your preferences. This removes the need to compute percentage macros on a regular basis.

Fiber

The numbers above only contain digestible carbs and do not include fiber. You may deduct them from your carbohydrate intake. You may consume as much natural fiber from veggies as you desire, for example.

Pure carbohydrates is another name for digestible carbs that are devoid of fiber.

Don’t be misled by the “no carbs” claim on processed foods such as candy bars. This may be deceiving, since these meals are often high in sugar alcohols, which can have bad consequences for your weight and blood sugar. When in doubt, stay away from anything that is made entirely of carbs.

Fresh, unprocessed meals are excellent for a successful low-carb diet. Continue reading
