This post is about an alternative way of preparing sweet potatoes. If you are a regular reader you know that I do not like to cook with sweet potatoes because I do not like the taste of them. This post is a perfect example of what not to do.
Sweet potatoes have been a staple of the South’s cuisine for centuries. These orange, yellow and white tubers are native to the Americas, and are the only food that contains a complete mixture of all essential amino acids. The taste of the starchy root is sweet and mellow; perfect for savory dishes like slow-cooked barbecue chipotle or sweet potato pie.
Did you know that the sweet potato is one of the most nutritionally dense foods out there? And did you know that it also has a very low fat content as well? I am not sure if that is a good thing or not in this case.. Read more about grilling sweet potatoes in foil and let us know what you think.
Our BBQ Sweet Potato Slices need just three ingredients, are simple to prepare, and taste fantastic! These tiny slices of perfection are quick to prepare and lend a touch of elegance to a weekday meal. You can also make them as a snack when it’s 4:00 p.m. and you’re in the need for something sweet and salty!
I don’t like having to ask my kids to eat roasted sweet potatoes since they aren’t their favorite. My husband and I love sweet potatoes in any form, so I wanted to be a bit more creative with them. This dish is excellent for a variety of reasons. Preparation time is almost non-existent! You may use a grill or a cooktop to prepare your meal. They cook quickly and are ready to eat in about 8 minutes. My children adore them, as do we. You may also add anything you want to the toppings to make it your own. They also go well with dishes like our 3 Ingredient Baked Pork Chops, Apple Butter Chicken, and BBQ Pulled Pork Tacos.
Is sweet potato better for you than normal potatoes?
To be honest, it depends on the health advantages you want. Both potatoes are good sources of carbohydrate. They both have about the same amount of carbohydrates: 1/2 cup Equals 15 grams. Sweet potatoes, on the other hand, contain more fiber and a lower glycemic index than white potatoes. A sweet potato is preferred by most nutritionists over a white potato!
Is it possible to consume sweet potatoes on a ketogenic diet?
No, you won’t be able to. Although sweet potatoes are a better alternative than white, starchy potatoes in general, they are nonetheless rich in carbohydrates no matter how they are prepared. Because a ketogenic diet is low in carbohydrates, you’ll have to say goodbye to this tasty vegetable.
The following are the ingredients for our BBQ Sweet Potato Slices:
- 1 pound of sweet potato (2-3 small ones)
- 1 tablespoon of BBQ seasoning
- 1/4 cup feta cheese, crumbled
- Garnish with chopped fresh parsley
To create our BBQ Sweet Potato Slices, follow these steps:
To begin, quarter the sweet potato into 1/4-inch rounds. In a mixing dish, combine the EVOO and the BBQ spices. Mix. In a large mixing bowl, toss the sweet potato rounds in the mixture. Preheat a skillet over medium-high heat.
Over medium heat, preheat a grated skillet. Grill for 2-3 minutes each side with one layer of potatoes in the skillet.
You’ll be able to smell the flavors as the slices cook! I typically examine the underside of one after about 3 minutes to see how much longer it will be before I need to turn it. Cooking time on the second side is always quicker than the first. Because I like darker grill markings, I cook mine for a few minutes longer than my spouse. It all boils down to personal taste.
Once the slices are cooked (3-4 minutes each side), you can either garnish them right in the pan or transfer them to a dish. They will continue to cook if you leave them in the pan. Serve with as much or as little feta as you want!
The greatest thing about these sweet potatoes is how easy they are to make while still being delicious. Because you just have 15 minutes, you aren’t compromising flavor, and you aren’t slaving for an hour to make something nutritious and tasty. These are a wonderful appetizer or side dish for any night of the week and will please the whole family. The BBQ flavor is smokey and not too salty, which is ideal for us!
