Salt fish with butter bean recipe – Jamaican Foods and Recipes

Jamaican cooking is a fusion of African, Indian, Spanish, and British culinary traditions. This recipe uses salt fish (a Caribbean staple) to make a delicious dish that can be served with rice or breadfruit for a complete meal.

The saltfish and butter beans recipe is a Jamaican dish. It is made by boiling saltfish in water with butter beans until the fish becomes tender.

One of my favorite recipes is salt fish with butter beans. This meal is particularly delicious because of the salinity of the saltfish and the sweetness of the butterbean.

Many Jamaican recipes include saltfish, including the Jamaican national meal (ackee and salt fish), saltfish fritters, and saltfish rundung (run down), to mention a few.

Saltfish is dry salted cod fish, although other kinds of fish have been utilized as saltfish in recent years. This is why several types of saltfish, such as boneless and skinless saltfish, are available.

When cooking the saltfish, take care to get rid of any extra salt. I suggest soaking the fish in cold water overnight.

If you don’t want to soak the fish overnight, be sure to rinse off any extra salt before boiling it for 15-20 minutes.

You won’t need to boil the fish for as long if you use boneless or skinless saltfish.

After the fish has been cooked, I always wash it again to remove as much salt as possible.

Saltfish Fritters, Ackee and Saltfish, Callaloo and Saltfish are all related.

When I prepare saltfish, I typically don’t add salt to the dish since the salt from the fish is enough to season the pot.

Some individuals still add salt to their food, and it is up to you to determine whether or not you want to add salt to the recipe below.

Hard food, such as boiled dumplings, boiled banana, boiling pumpkin, and boiled yam, go well with salt fish with butter bean.

If you don’t want to eat hard food, you may eat it with rice, like I did.

One of my favorite recipes is salt fish with butter beans. Because I like both salt fish and butter beans, I decided to combine the two in a meal, and this is the result.

  • Drain the butterbean after washing it.

  • Trim the string beans’ ends and slice them into four pieces.

  • Chop the okra into tiny pieces after trimming the ends.

  • Set aside the carrot, tomato, bell pepper, onion, and garlic.

  • In a medium saucepan, heat the oil. Cook until the onion is tender, then add the garlic and thyme.

  • Stir in the string beans, okra, bell pepper, scotch bonnet pepper, carrot, tomato, and salt until everything is well combined. Cover and set aside for ten minutes. Stir once in a while.

  • Add the butter bean and salt fish flakes. Stir thoroughly and continue to simmer on low heat for another 5-10 minutes.

Serve with simple rice, broccoli, and roasted butternut squash, like I did. This is something you should try!!!!
