The Belgian waffle is a type of waffle that originated in Belgium. It is traditionally made with yeast-risen dough that contains pearl sugar, resulting in a crunchy texture.

The restaurant belgian waffle recipe is a delicious and easy-to-make breakfast recipe. It’s made from yeast dough that is deep fried, then topped with powdered sugar and whipped cream.

Breakfast with these Belgian Waffles is simple and tasty. On the exterior, the waffles are thick and crispy, while on the interior, they are soft and fluffy. For the perfect weekend brunch, serve with fruit and freshly whipped cream.

Video Instructions

How to Make Waffles is shown in the video below.

Waffles cooked from scratch

One of my favorite brunch dishes to prepare at home is waffles!

The fragrance of freshly cooked waffles billowing from the waffle iron is unrivaled.

The deep pockets are begging to be filled with maple syrup and eaten!

Ingredients for Belgian Waffles

250g / Flour, 2 CUP — This recipe calls for all-purpose or regular flour, not self-rising flour.

1 tbsp baking powder – Baking powder will make the lightest and fluffiest waffles possible. Make sure baking powder isn’t confused with baking soda.

12 teaspoon salt

2 tbsp Sugar — This recipe does not call for sugar. I typically skip it since I like my waffles to be sweetened with toppings and syrup.

2 Separated Eggs – Make sure your eggs are at room temperature before starting. If you’re going to keep them in the fridge, take them out about 30 minutes before you want to start cooking waffles.

80ml | 13 cup oil – Butter may be used instead, but the waffles have a superior texture with oil.

500mL | 2 CUP MILK – For this recipe, whole milk is ideal, although a milk substitute may be used instead.

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Belgian Waffles: How to Make Them

Sieve together the dry ingredients – flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar – in a large mixing basin.

Combine the dry ingredients in a mixing bowl using a whisk.

Sifting the ingredients and whisking them together ensures that the waffles are light and fluffy, with no lumps in the dry ingredients.

Two medium-sized eggs should be separated.

Place the egg yolks in the same dish as the dry ingredients, and the egg whites in a separate basin to be beaten shortly.

Measure out the oil and vanilla essence, using a neutral oil like sunflower or canola as a base, and combine with the dry ingredients and egg yolks in a mixing dish.

Add the milk to the mixing bowl after measuring it out.

Combine the ingredients in a mixing bowl with a whisk until no dry flour remains.

There may be a few lumps in the mixture, but this isn’t a problem; just don’t overmix the batter, since this will result in dry, rough waffles.

Whip the egg whites to stiff peaks using a hand mixer or a stand mixer.

All of this air will result in the fluffiest waffles ever!

Using a spatula or wooden spoon, fold the beaten egg whites into the waffle batter, taking careful not to deflate the whole mixture.

Grease your waffle iron and fill it halfway with waffle batter.

Cook for about 5 minutes, or until the waffles are crisp!

Getting up on the weekend and making a batch of handmade Belgian Waffles is a great way to start the day!

These are very simple to make and come in a variety of flavors and toppings.

Summer berries with whipped cream, bananas with chocolate sauce, or bacon, bananas, and maple syrup? Perhaps you like buttermilk fried chicken to take it to the next level.

Frequently Asked Questions about Belgian Waffles

What makes Belgian Waffles so special?

If we’re talking about classic Belgian waffles, yeast was used to raise the batter in the past, but as time has passed, baking powder has replaced yeast. A Belgian Waffle now refers to the waffle iron on which the waffles are made, which is typically circular with deep pockets, as well as the light, fluffy batter.

Can I make these waffles using pancake mix?

You’ll need to follow the instructions to create these waffles, but if you have pancake mix on hand, you can cook it in a waffle iron as well. Although it won’t be as light and fluffy as these waffles, it’ll still be a tasty breakfast!

Is it possible to freeze these waffles and reheat them later?

Yes, you certainly can! Place them in the freezer tightly wrapped. Use the same waffle iron to reheat, or a toaster will suffice!
