With all the hormones floating around in our bodies, it’s no wonder that our mental and physical state can be affected by them. It’s easy for women to get confused over what’s going on here. But just as men can suffer from a condition known as male energy, women can have female energy. And when they do, it can be a curse.
In modern society, there are many stereotypes about women. Some women believe that they can’t achieve success because of their gender. Some believe that a woman should be a mother. And many believe that women are unable to hold a serious job and raise a family. These stereotypes are not just unfair, but they also hold women back from reaching their full potential.
Let’s face it, life is filled with ups and downs. You’ll get good days and bad days, and you’ll have your highs and lows. But how often do you stop and think about the way your body is producing hormones? Are you getting the best balance of hormones you can? Even if you’re not a woman, we’re sure you’ve noticed that all women have different hormone levels, and that these hormones can affect your physical and mental health.. Why, given the complexity of a woman’s hormonal system, does traditional medicine treat it so simplistically? For a better knowledge of female hormonal physiology, see this article.
“The male is the head, but the woman is the neck,” says the narrator. She can also move her head in whichever direction she wants.” — A Very Large Greek Wedding
You, women, are beautiful, elegant, and sophisticated beings. I hold you in the highest regard. Without you, the world would have come apart a long, long time ago, in my view.
You have a lot of depths to you as a woman, emotionally, intellectually, and, not unexpectedly, hormonally. That is the crux of the issue.
Why, given the complexity of a woman’s hormonal system, does traditional medicine treat it so simplistically? I’m sorry, but it’s not as simple as putting a lady on hormones when she goes to the doctor complaining about hormonal problems (birth control, hormone replacement therapy, etc.). There’s a lot more to it, which hopefully this essay will teach you.
Hormones in Women 101
There is no such thing as a basic 101 course when it comes to female hormones. Hopefully, this video will provide a basic understanding of how your hormones function. Before going to a doctor for testing, I believe that every woman should have a good knowledge of how her hormonal cycle works.

Hormones are out of control.
Here are a handful of the numerous things that may go wrong now that you have a basic knowledge of your hormonal system. Surprisingly, only a small percentage of these conditions require hormone treatment. Almost none of them do, in fact.
Hormone replacement treatment is one of the most often prescribed, misused, and harmful medicines for women. Sure, it has helped some women, and yes, it is necessary for some women. However, just because something makes you happy doesn’t imply it’s healthy.
Why do you want your hormones to be balanced?
Hormones are essential for the proper functioning of almost every system in the body, including:
- Estrogen and progesterone are neuroprotective hormones that aid brain function, decrease inflammation in the brain, and improve cognitive performance. Estrogen has also been linked to the prevention of Alzheimer’s disease.
- Hormones and neurotransmitters have a close connection, which means hormones may have a significant effect on mood, willpower, and motivation.
- Hormones and bone metabolism have a significant relationship.
- When your progesterone levels are optimum, your thyroid hormone, which regulates your metabolism, performs better.
- Estrogen protects women’s hearts.
- Progesterone aids in immune response regulation.
Most significantly, hormones are most helpful when they are in balance. All hormones, whether in excess or shortage, may have harmful effects.
What should I do?
“Everyone requires chaste tree berry or black cohosh,” or “Every woman needs progesterone cream,” I’d remark if I didn’t have any scruples. That, however, would be incorrect. This is completely incorrect. That would be simply illiterate.
Instead, if you’re experiencing hormone issues, you should be checked. When it comes to testing, you have three choices: blood, saliva, or urine.
- Hormone metabolites, not hormones themselves, are measured in urine hormone testing. It’s excellent for determining what hormones are being transformed into, but it’s not great for determining exact hormone levels.
- Hormones may be measured in two ways in blood tests: free and bound. Free hormones are referred to be “active” hormones since they have the ability to enter cells and exert metabolic effects. Bound hormones, on the other hand, are bound to a protein molecule and therefore inaccessible for usage in the body until the carrier is removed.
- Finally, salivary hormone testing measures just free hormones.
All tests are legitimate, however they all fall into a distinct clinical category.
Salivary testing seems to be the sole option for female hormone testing. The reason for this is that instead of doing a single blood draw and making assumptions about what hormones are doing the other 27 days of the month, you can collect several samples throughout the month and analyze the full month of hormones at a lower cost. Diagnostechs is a lab that I especially appreciate since they include pituitary hormones in their tests.
What should I do… Today
We seldom perform a hormone test on a woman who comes into our clinic with hormonal problems… at least not at first. The reason for this is because there are four factors that can totally destabilize a woman’s hormones, one of which has already been mentioned.
1. Blood sugar levels
Blood sugar levels must be maintained in a healthy range. Blood sugar abnormalities in women produce increases in testosterone, which wreak havoc on the hormonal system, as described in a previous post.
2. Adrenal glands
The adrenal glands must be in good working order. Adrenal failure may inhibit pituitary function and deprive sex hormones of the essential precursors for hormone synthesis, as seen in the video. Adrenal gland dysfunction is critical for hormonal homeostasis.
3. Gastrointestinal function
The gastrointestinal system must be in good functioning order. This is a crucial aspect of hormone balance that is often overlooked. To mention a few effects, gastrointestinal dysfunction may increase cortisol, create hormone detoxification problems, and generate harmful hormone metabolites. Your hormones will not function correctly if your stomach isn’t functioning properly.
If hormone balance is sought, each of these systems must be functioning correctly. To put it another way, if any of these systems isn’t functioning correctly, you won’t have optimum hormone balance.
Summary
Female hormones are just as complicated as… well, female hormones. Nothing else compares to these. Women, on the other hand, are by far the most mistreated patients in medicine today. If you’re experiencing hormonal problems, the solution isn’t as easy as adding additional hormones to your system. Your body must be in good working order, and hormones have a wonderful way of regulating themselves when it is.

Just as a woman needs certain hormones to make her feel well as a healthy woman, men also needs certain hormones to feel great. Men are so much different than women, and they naturally respond differently to the same things. This might be one of the reasons that men are so much heavier than women, especially since men are usually more muscular and have larger bones..
