Whiskey sizzled in popularity in the 19th century. The Scots had the whiskey, the Irish had the bubbles, and the English were left out in the cold by all three. Eventually, whiskey spun its way into America, where it was deemed an alcoholic drink for “whiskey sages.” The “sage” part is important, because sage is synonymous with “green,” “new,” or “fresh.” Green-complected people are viewed as young, new, and fresh, which is why sage is often associated with youthful, contemporary, and modern things.

A popular winter cocktail may sound like something you’d drink on a cold night with fire, but, in reality, it is very much drinkable now. As urban legend has it, it originated with the American soldiers stationed in Russia during World War II. The soldiers were given their choice of vodka, cognac, or whiskey to drink during the winter, and the whiskey was the most popular choice. So, they mixed the spirit with water to make a drink that would keep them warm all winter long.. Read more about sage whiskey cocktail and let us know what you think.
